Canadian and Australian English generally follow British spelling while the American version is slightly different.
Generally, it is agreed that no one version is "correct" however, there are certainly preferences in use.
Licence and license are both valid in the US, but in Britain the former is the noun, the latter the verb (same for practice and practise). A good dictionary will indicate both American and British spellings when there is a difference.
Why do the differences exist? Well, America chose to differentiate itself from Britain from its beginnings; spelling was included in that.
We have allowed for those differences in our programs and while the website might have different spelling styles to reflect all versions, when personalized the programs have been particularly designed to suit the spelling in your country.
Just remember parents do not need to overwhelm their children with English and grammatical rules at a young age. Once they reach school age however, since one of the first steps to reading success is spelling, it is important for families to work together on memorizing how to spell. Slowly introduce these activities and lessons into your weekly family activities.
